15 Must Try Restaurants in Davao City

During my short-term work assignment abroad, I was deeply missing Filipino food. I was craving from time to time: lechon, halo-halo, sinigang, chicken barbeque and the list goes on. There’s no better place like home, right? While I was there, I was thinking of all the restaurants I want to visit as soon as I get back so I came up with Top 15 must-try restaurants here in Davao City.

I have listed 15 of my favorite restaurants along with its rating as to price, food, ambiance and service 1 as fine and 5 as best. Price with a higher rating means it’s cheaper and reasonably priced.

  1. Out of Nowhere

Price: 4

Food: 3

Ambiance: 3

Service: 2

This is a newly opened restaurant in Davao. It opened on the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2016, hence it is understandable why their service is not systemize yet.  Food is also great and ambiance is unique. However the place is so small that it can only accommodate few, thereby takes time to wait for your turn. My favorite is their baby back ribs. All desserts are sumptuous too.

  1. Balik-Bukid

Price: 4

Food: 3

Ambiance: 4

Service: 3

Originally located in Calinan, Balik-Bukid has branch out in Quimpo Boulevard. This restaurant is uniquely designed like you are in a farm. All food is organically raised and planted at their own farm. If you want to experience a farm-life where you can experience catching chicken or picking up vegetables for your food, you can head to their main branch in Wangan.

  1. Blue Post Boiling Crabs and Shrimps

Price: 3

Food: 4

Ambiance: 4

Service: 4

Average: 3.75

Who loves seafood? ME! Blue Post Boiling Point is the first restaurant here in Davao to have a “boodle fight”-themed restaurant. They have this sweet spicy sauce that distinct them from the rest. Their famous dish is the crab and shrimp in a bag.

  1. Lara Mia

Price: 3

Food: 4

Ambiance: 4

Service: 4

This restaurant just opened on the last quarter of 2016 and it really is a must restaurant in Davao City. The ambiance is Instagram worthy as it is dainty, elegant and fabulous. They serve delectable desserts, pasta, pizza and main courses. My favorite here is their Truffle Pasta!

  1. Bon Appetit! La Boutique

Price: 2

Food: 5

Ambiance: 4

Service: 4

My favorite French Restaurant here in Davao is Bon Appetite. It has a bigger space now than it used to be, showing that this restaurant is indeed growing. They have a weekly special menu. I love their salad and chicken fricassee. I also love their steak and all desserts!

  1. White House Fusion Cuisine and Wine Lounge

Price: 1

Food: 4

Ambiance: 5

Service: 5

A neo-Japanese restaurant situated in an ancestral home in the heart of Davao City is this exquisite White House Fusion Cuisine and wine Lounge. It is a fine dining restaurant perfect for all occasion. It has a private and function room consumable. My favorite is their Burgundy Degustation for Php 1,090! It serves with appetizer, soup, main course and dessert. Everything is sumptuous and priced fairly. Their famous dessert here is the Yamamomo Cheesecake which really is delectable. A lot of prenuptial shoots are also held here.

  1. Claude’s

Price: 2

Food: 5

Ambiance: 5

Service: 4

We celebrated our anniversary here twice so this restaurant must be really special. This is in fact one of my recommended restaurants for special occasions other than white house. Actually both restaurants are similar in some ways: ancestral home turned into a fine dining restaurant which makes the ambiance really perfect for intimate dinner.

  1. Bondi and Bourke

Price: 2

Food: 5

Ambiance: 5

Service: 5

The last restaurant I have tried before I went to London was this fab restaurant and I can’t wait to try this again! From dainty utensils to elegant interior, this restaurant does not only look good on photos but will surely fill your tummies with a smile.

  1. Sea Green

Price: 3

Food: 5

Ambiance: 5

Service: 5

Good food, healthy food this is the best restaurant for you. Everything in the menu is for health conscious eater. So you don’t have to be guilty. Their Garlic Gambas is a must try. Oh don’t forget their tablea shake please.

  1. Yummy

Price: 5

Food: 4

Ambiance: 4

Service: 4

Here’s another restaurant where price and food goes along. It’s not just affordable but it is fancy and it’s delicious. The place is so dainty and girly. It serves cute and Instagram worthy desserts. Their food is also sumptuous, mostly Filipino food.

  1. Tsuru

Price: 2

Food: 5

Ambiance: 4

Service: 5

I have learned to love Japanese food because of Tsuru. Not really a fan of makis but when I’ve tried their maki, everything changes. My favorite is their California maki and volcano roll! I can have one serving just for myself! Haha.

  1. Bulgogi Brothers

Price: 2

Food: 5

Ambiance: 5

Service: 5

Whenever I am PMSing or feeling sad, I really head to this restaurant. This is not originally from Davao as this belongs to the Bistro Group like Italiannis and TGIF but this is exceptionally the best Korean restaurant I love. Like I can be here every day and order the same food over and over again. My default order is their Beef Brisket. It comes with bean sprout and Angus Beef then served with 4 side dish. My favorite side dish is their stripped potato! It’s heaven! I even exchange all the side dishes for the potato. I can eat at least 5 potato side dish! Like, seriously! If anyone knows how to make it, please give me a jar please? 😀

  1. Café Tavera

Price: 3

Food: 5

Ambiance: 5

Service: 4

Another restaurant originally from Davao is Café Tavera. I love this restaurant since Day 1. They serve Filipino dishes and top sellers are their Salted Crabs and Dragon Balls. My favorite apart from the two is their Steamed Garlic Pompano! Everything is served delish. Also my favorite dessert is their mango float in a cup. It’s creamy and not too sweet. It’s also unique because they have this wet market at the corner where you can choose your raw meat or seafood and have it cook the way you wanted to be.

  1. Tiny Kitchen

Price: 3

Food: 5

Ambiance: 5

Service: 5

Always my favorite Spanish restaurant here in Davao. Tiny Kitchen really started as a small restaurant but it grew instantly because let’s be honest everything is really sumptuous from appetizer to main course to dessert even their drinks are a must! My favorite main is their Paella (all three paella are perfect!) and Beef Salpicao. My favorite pasta: seafood marinara and paella pasta. Favorite drink: Pepino Fresca (the BEST!) and favorite dessert? Can I say all? Haha. But seriously, their Crinkles, Sylvannas and Red velvet are my top three. Ambiance is really perfect; semi fine dining. Service is excellent and food is perfect! Price, however, is reasonable.

  1. Penongs

Price: 5

Food: 5

Ambiance: 3

Service: 4

Top on the list of course is Penong’s. This restaurant is originally from Tagum City but branches out here in Davao. It’s is on top of my list because it is deliciously affordable. It serves delectable Filipino dishes that people who works abroad really crave for the moment they come home in Davao. They’re specialty is their Chicken Barbeque. Their value meals are called Inato and ranges from Php 90-130 including UNLIMITED RICE and SOUP. Cheap, right? It is not just cheap but it’s oozingly delicious.  My favorite dishes are chicken barbeque, sisig with egg, tropical fruit salad and mangga’t bagoong and their FREE SOUP! Haha. Good News! Penongs is opening its new branch near Davao International Airport, Penongs NHA this coming June 2017. It is 5-10minutes from the airport so you might want to drop by and taste right after you land or before you depart from Davao? *wink* And good news! You can have your orders delivered!
