Tourist Spots in Western and Southern Tokyo with No Fees

Hachiko and Shibuya Crossing

C’mon! Who can ever forget Hachiko? If you don’t know him, you better start searching. One of the must-see attractions in Tokyo is Hachiko’s Statue which is located just in front of Shibuya Station. Aside from Hachiko, the busiest crossing, Shibuya crossing, can also be found here. Shibuya is known to be the center for youth fashion and culture. Never leave Tokyo without having a photo with Hachiko and the Shibuya Crossing.

How to Get There

Hop off Shibuya Station via JR YAmanote Line, JR Saikyo Line, JR Shonan Shinjuku Line,  Hanzomon Subway Line, Ginza Subway Line, Fukutoshin Subway Line, Tokyu Toyoko Line, Tokyu Den-Entoshi Line, Keio Inokashira Line and the Narita Express.

Tokyo Midtown

Tokyo Midtown is located in Roponggi district. It is a compound which comprises of office buildings, shops, restaurants, museums, apartments and luxury hotels like Ritz Carlton. We have actually not took time strolling as the wind was so cold and we just can’t bear it. Haha.

How to Get There

You can alight at Roponggi Station on the Oedo Subway Line or can ride the Hibiya Subway Line or Marunouchi Line and alight at Kasumigaseki Station. Train fare would approximately cost JPY 170 from Tokyo Station.

Tokyo Tower

Prior to Tokyo Sky tree, is Tokyo Tower was the country’s tallest structure. It stands 333 meters high and is taller by 13 meters than its model Eiffel Tower. I call this Eiffel Tower of Japan as it really looks like one. Haha.

Same with Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower has two observatory decks: the main observatory deck at 150 meters high and Special Observatory at 250 meters. Aside from observatory decks, there is also a One Piece (Anime) theme park located inside the tower.

Fees and Operating Hours

We have not entered the tower but we took photos outside. Fees for observation decks are cheaper as compared to Tokyo Sky Tree:

  • Main Observatory Deck – JPY 900
  • Main and Special Observatory deck – JPY 1,600
  • One Piece Tower Theme Park – JPY 3,200

The tower opens at 9:00am until 11:00 pm while the One Piece Tower Theme Park opens at 10:00 and closes at 10:00pm.

How to Get There

There are three stations near Tokyo Tower: Onarimon Station on Mita Subway Line, Akabanebashi Station on the Oedo Subway Line and Kamiyacho on the Subway Line. A 5-19 minute walk is required when you alight in all three stations.

Odaiba Area

Another place to catch in Southern Tokyo is the Odaiba Area. I will be posting a separate blog for a number of attractions can be found here. Too many to shrink everything in just one post. Hahaha.
